M16 in Ha with QHY9 and TSA120

After shooting the Ha for my M17 image I thought I would have a go at M16 just next door.

I managed 7 X 10 minute subs of M16 with QHY9, Baader 7nm Ha filter and Takahashi TSA120 telescope.

I have included a couple of crops to show the detail captured. The first image is full frame.

Thanks David. I just love Ha, It takes very little work to finish off if the data is good to start with.

Thanks Ross. It all works as long as you don't push it to hard.

Thanks Marc. Last night was probably the best night here for 12 months but I had to work today so had to cut it short, otherwise I might have had a crack at something else.

Thanks Martin, Just a lucky night without cloud for a few hours. Doesn't happen very often I might add so I have to grab it while I can.
I was very happy with this image and how it turned out for so little exposure. I think one of my better images.

Doug,

Wow, mate. As beautiful as the crops are, I adore the full frame that you've presented here. The hydrogen alpha processing definitely gives a sense of scale. Very, very smooth processing, too. Glad to see you've toned the sharpening down a touch.

The only thing I would suggest is if the main attraction was more centred. Other than that, magic. I will have to give this a go with the FSQ and Extender-Q 1.6x.

Cheers!

H

Thanks everyone, I was really happy how this one turned out for a relatively short exposure time. Everything just worked for once.

Thanks Trevor, Two very different cameras indeed. The Atik was a big full frame 35mm CCD with 9um pixels. The QHY9 is a smaller CCD with much smaller pixels which much better suits my scopes. The QHY9 also has better cooling which suits me during the summer months. I really cannot complain about either camera as they did exactly what they were designed to do and did it well.
I will say that the QHY cameras have evolved into a range of cameras quite able to stand next to many of the much more expensive cameras out there, provide a real cost saving and some features that the others do lack. This at times does make them harder to initially come to grips with but in the end provide some extra features not available to the others such as a variable gain and offset. Usefull at times but can also be set and forgotten as well.
I have seen the QHY range mature and am very happy to use them as my prefered camera. Theo is also something else providing an aftersales service which is hard to beat.
