M16 - The Eagle returns - again... and once more!

Hello!!

Well on the advice that some people had given me, in particular Marco Lorenzi, I re-calibrated my monitor and then reprocessed my data of M16 that I took last Wednesday night.

I have to say on the results I've managed in this version I may have jumped the gun in posting my first effort! In this processing run I took my time and a lot of care to get the parameters just right. My stars are not as fat and the overall image is a lot brighter. I've put the new version on AstroBin where the original version is - I think you'll all agree that it is a lot better. I also hope that the image is not as dark now that I've re-calibrated my monitor.

So here is the new version of M16 - The Eagle Nebula.

Cheers,
Mario

I just can't leave it alone!

On the back of some more advice, I've tinkered with my Eagle Nebula image. I've slightly adjusted the midtones and highlights to try and put some contrast within the central portion of the image.

Here's the new version of my M16 - The Eagle Nebula on AstroBin where the differences can be seen against the other versions. However I've also attached a lower resolution version of this image to this post.

Cheers,
Mario

OK, this is my final fiddle with this image... for today!!

I've played around with levels and curves and have reduced the red hue some more. I think there's more contrast in this one and features stand out a little bit more. I think I like this one more than the previous but I'm not sure...

The main thing is that I've learnt a hell of a lot about processing just from tinkering with this one image.

Anyway, here is the latest version....

Cheers,
Mario

Hi Mario,

I know the sickness well.......100 different versions and still not happy!

It drives you crazy.

I like all your versions, sharp with great detail.

However, I do think your last one is the best. It has a nice balance of colours.

Ross.
