First image for a year - Milky Way

Wow, it's been ages - this is the first mage I've posted in a very long time. Lack of decent sky, work, illness, life... and did I mention decent sky?

This is the first test shot using my new 17-40mm F/4 L USM on the EOS 5D Mark II at ISO800, 600 seconds @F/4. Guided on the G11/Tak FS-60C/QHY5 combo.

I think I've forgotten how to take images and certainly how to process them.

Not being an imager I can't comment on the processing, but I think it's a killer image Chris. Dust looks great, and looks like you've picked up alot. Well done and welcome back, nothing like a new lens to help things along

You'll get back into the swing of things, Chris. It's like riding a bike. You're just a bit rusty

Image isn't bad, btw

Heaps of compression artifacts in the attached version but a great image and a great way to ease back into it!

Thanks Jason, Carl, Mark & Mike. It's been too long, for sure. I've forgotten so much in such a short time.

@Mike - yeah, compressing even a web-size a 1200px wide file with as much data as this into 200kb is a bit of a problem. LOL... Anyway - I'll be working on the data properly tonight if I get a chance.

Thanks for the comments fellas.

Has it been that long.... Wow...

Looks like the desire to have a go is still there, it will all become familiar territory in no time.

Cheers David, and thanks. It was taken at Macarthur Astronomical Society's "Stargard" field at The Oaks, near Camden. We had a good turnout last night, until the moon and fog stopped us.

Great photo Chris.

Such detail and sharpness from full aperture, what an excellent lens.

Thanks.

Ross.
