Talking Snow!

What a surprise today's snowfall was... we've been having forecasts of snow for some time now that just didn't deliver, so it was a pleasant surprise to get a real one today.

I was hoping to get a snowfall for this months photo challenge, and you'll see No3 is my entry so far. Nothing special in any of these shots, but they're OK. If I get a better shot for the comp I'll change it.

Al.

Well, what do you know? He wasn't there when I took the photo... there is a story about the ghost of Sheepstation Road though. He was an old bushie who lived in a hut near the road before it was turn to forestry. He wouldn't go anywhere near newspapers or books because he reckoned he could see ghosts in the pictures... eventually he went mad, and one night stepped out of the dark in front of a truck just there actually and...

nah, just kidding!

A trick of the light I suspect.

Ha, thats what I thought to when I saw the image, poor old bushie must be shocked by the snow.

Hey Al,

Thats weird, the bushie in the photo on the road, its ALL I can see now.

Looks like a formed, round head and the colours look out of place on the darker road, its like there is someone standing there, looking away from the camera, with a satchel strap over his right shoulder (and under his left arm).

I have even tried the old, "defocusing" trick to see if the image I see blends into the back ground but all I can see is that tan coloured figure looking like he is facing away and thumbing a ride.

Blowing it up doesnt help as the compression is too blocky to see what it actually is or how the colours make the illusion happen.....

Any chance of a higher res pic posted somewhere or a crop of the high res original?

This has me intrigued......and a little spooked......looks a bit like Chewbacca with his bowcaster slung across his back.....

Cheers

Chris

Yeah, the ghost effect is great!

The legs are a bit of snow on the road, the body is the road going over the next hill and the head is just a gap in the trees.
Fantastic effect.

Excellent how we perceive things as human form (left over from ancient days of survival)

haha yeah that "ghost" is certainly an excellent coincidental juxtaposition of features in the foreground and in the distance. It even has an "aura" on the road where it is "standing" pointing to towards the camera.

Send it to the paper and the TV channels. Instant media storm and global fame It really does look creepy before you realise what it actually is

You're right on the money Ken.

After my last post, I went back to original and cropped out the "ghost" in order to post a full sized version, but before I could post it, I lost my internet connection... too much snow on the satellite dish it turns out... oh, well... here's the pic anyway.

Even knowing what causes the effect I can still even in the larger image of see the spectoral figure while at the same time seeing how the eye is fooled.

I reckon you should post it in one of those forums, start a bit of a conspiracy theory...
Let's go with the alien bases under the blue mountains story. Cloaking technology... What do you think? Dramatic enough

I don't mind a tall story when its all done in good fun. One of my favourite "board games" is Balderdash - where you have to invent a meaning for something like an abbreviation but you score extra points for convincing other people that your wrong meaning is right. Good fun. Good mental exercise trying to invent nonsense that sounds feasible.

It probably all started when I was 3. My older brothers had a reel to reel tape recorder and interviewed me. I told them a story about how God and I filled the Tuggerah Lakes... apparently God had 2 buckets and I had one. Still a favourite story of my mum's, but she was very annoyed when a cousin of ours recorded his guitar over it.
