Four Edmund RKE 1.25” Eyepieces – 8, 12, 15 and 28mm

SOLD

The reverse-Kellner eyepiece design of Edmunds’ RKE range offers something a bit different to the more familiar ‘simple’ eyepiece designs such as Plossls and Orthoscopics. RKE’s are a worthy alternative in situations where the last vestige of contrast needs to be wrung out of a target and the less light-absorbing glass in the optical path, the better. Their 45° field won’t suit every purpose, but when the chips are down, particularly on difficult small or dim targets, RKE’s can deliver.

In a solar telescope, the high contrast of RKE’s can make single-stacked hydrogen-alpha observing more productive, with the 8, 12 and 15mm eyepieces being particularly suitable for the focal lengths of both 40mm Coronado models and 60mm Lunts. The compact size, light weight and high contrast of these eyepieces also makes them a natural match for the Coronado PST.

Edmund RKE eyepieces are hard to find in Australia, but four out of the five in the RKE range are available here: 8mm, 12mm, 15mm and 28mm! (For collectors, the 8mm is labeled “Edmund Industrial Optics”; the other three are labeled “Edmund Scientific Co”). Cosmetic condition varies from good/very good to excellent - the 8 and 12mm appear newer than the other two, which have signs of usage but no bruises. Optically all of them are fine, although the 28mm is a little dusty.

The eyepieces, complete with top and bottom caps and bolt-type plastic storage cases, as shown in the photos, are for sale as a set of four for only $165, which includes careful packing and registered postage to anywhere in Australia. Inquiries by PM only, please.

(I’d prefer to sell these as the set of four, but if you’re interested in a particular eyepiece or eyepieces, please send me a PM listing what you want and if the whole set doesn’t sell in a week or so, I’ll get back to you to discuss individual prices).
