Old Melbourne Gaol

Two images with the "typically overdone melbourne gaol composition" we all know and love. Hey, we were in Melbourne for a couple of days, so it had to be done #2 is a film image shot with ilford sfx 200, though I didn't have a red filter at the time so there's not much of an infrared effect at all. CC most very welcome. Architectural stuff isn't my strong point, so I just went for the boring composition and tried to get the geometry symmetrical for these

edit: Thought I should add that I did leave the shadow of the person in #2 on purpose, for dramatic effect. Or something.

Spooky!
I like both pictures. The colour of the sandstone and the glass ceiling...wow

Thanks Jeanette It's a nice (I'm sure that isn't really the right word! ) place to visit, but can be very very touristy! This time we went in late afternoon on a weekday and there were still a fair few people milling about.

Top photos Jason.

I like both styles. They both tell a different story.

I haven't visited Old Melb Gaol, but I intend to. I have been to many old Gaols around Victoria (some several times), and I look forward to seeing Old Melbourne.
Fortunately Cheryl and our boys are also fascinated by them so the old Gaols make a great family day out for us

We were the only people in the Old Geelong Gaol all day on one of our visits. We had the place to ourselves
The guide said some days they get no-one. What a waste of a great old attraction.

If you get down this way again, take the time to go out to Ararat and visit 'J' Ward.
It is the best old Gaol we have ever been to. It is the old Gaol for the Criminally Insane.
Man, talk about spooky! Yet we keep going back

Cheers Rod & Ken Sounds great too Ken, I'm sure a prison for the criminally insane is bound to be an experience. When I was younger we visited Richmond Gaol which was quite good, though being young and on holiday with the family I think I was a little too young to properly appreciate it. Will definitely have to check out Geelong and Ararat next time we're down there, though the list of things to do/places to see only gets infinitely longer doesn't it?
