Saturn storm June 4th 2011

Hi All,

Have had some unsettled weather passing through these last couple of days but the rain stopped and clouds cleared briefly last night after Sunset.

I have 1 reasonable RGB & 807nm IR data set that may be of interest, prior to the signal dropping off as more cloud moved in.

There is an interesting feature within the storm structure over near the Preceding limb, it shows up well in both the RGB & 807nm IR data, there is also a brighter more condensed plume that is more or less at the CM in both data sets and the dark material that seems to split the storm trail in the RGB, although more subtle, also is visible in the IR. It is interesting to blink between the RGB & IR data to pick out the more subtle detail that comes up in IR.

Thanks for looking

Regards
Trevor

Thanks for the views again Trevor. Forgive me if I have missed the obvious, but I have just noticed the 3D ring edge, your IR image shows it the best where the faint line passes across Saturn just above the rings and the thicker edge showing up to the left side of the planet. Is this just a seeing artifact?

Thanks Lester, yes, it is just an artifact that is more prominent in IR, as for the IR capture the gain is set at max so there is more noise. Also the frame rate for IR with Saturn was only 11 fps so perturbations in seeing become more of an issue.

Thanks John, yes, it is important to keep recording the storm.
This morning Dave Tyler sent me a cracker of a Saturn RGB but he said that it may be his last for this apparition as Saturn is only now available in the UK when the sky is very bright.

Reckon that makes it all the more important to keep imaging it from Australia for as long as possible.

Thanks for the view Trevor. An interesting development going on with the storm there.
