Suspended in Animation

Another portrait of the majestic Stirling Falls.

The somewhat fast shutter speed has rendered suspended flames of water that create a sense of uneasiness. At least to my mind, I want to see them released from their state of suspended animation and continue to fall.

I've been working on a RAW processing method which involves the use of linear RAW data, rather than data that has had a tone curve applied to it. The process doesn't work for colour images, but, can do remarkable things for black and white conversions.

1/100s f/5.6 at 40.0mm iso400

Been a couple of years now and I'm still finding data that hasn't been processed, haha.

Pretty amazing what the difference is between 1/100s and 1/60s.

Yeah I remember that shot. I also remember that video you did while driving under the rain with all the water running off the hills and mountains sides. That was scary.

Agreed, mate. I am usually a fan of low contrast images, but, to highlight the falling water, the contrast works great here.

Cheers! And, yep, I've got geegs upon geegs. I keep going back and finding new stuff I've overlooked. I'm seriously overdue another trip. There's loads of cheap specials going on in August, but, I'm not going to be able to get away then. Might have to splurge and go in Spring. But, that's alright -- never been there in Spring before, but, have seen plenty of images to know what lies in store.

Ah, interesting you use the words you do. I've got a mixed bag of long exposures and somewhat faster ones to balance the waterfalls out. Most of them are long exposure, though.
