Big SATURN (6/2/06)... and great white spot?

Hi All, Seeing settled down after Mars last night to have a go at Saturn, 6, maybe 7 out of 10 at times. Enough to give the 4x powermate a go. Transparency wasn't great though so had to have gain up to nearly 70%. Also took some avi with the 2.5 powermate where I could wind gain back to ~30%.

The 4 x shot is at left, not bad all things considered- had to stack a heap of frames though to reduce the grain 2184 of 3600 frames (Astra Image LR devonvolution). The other two are from the same avi post-processed with Unsharp Mask and LR deconvolution respectively.

The most interesting thing is the light spot found on the globe in both shots. I'm assuming this is a storm - does anyone know if it's a long-lived feature or a flare up?

enjoy

Hey man! Their lovely images!!

A storm!?...Hell, I had white spots in my last Saturn & I though they were noise or grain or something so I processed them out!?

PS...I won't be getting mars either tonight...absolutely rotten seeing conditions The war-god-gaulet-tossing-down-of to be continued!

Well done Robert, I haven't seen any aussie imagers capture the storm yet! Well done!

There's been a few images on CN and Astromart with it.. nothing but clouds here.

Excellent result.

nice work Robert, it's amazing that we can observe this when you consider how far Saturn is, great images.
