Thanks fellas! I hope you enjoy the read.
My last day at work is tomorrow. Semester starts on the 20th of Feb. I'm hoping to head down to Canberra this Friday and Satruday to have a look at some places for rent. Two weeks should be plenty of time to find a place right? But that is what every other student would be thinking... *gulp*
By the way, I got my S&S copies on Monday already

Hey Silvie.
Congrats on S&S.
And welcome to the nation's Capital ... for this weekend when you arrive.
Good luck with the house hunting. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding something fairly quickly. The rental situation here is pretty fluid coz of the transient public servant and uni crowd.
What are you studying, by the way? At ANU or UC???

Welcome to Canberra Silvie.
Don't forget to join the Canberra Astro Soc once you have settled in. If you are without a scope in Canberra, we do have a Meade 14" LX200 in a roll off roof observatory at Mt Stromlo for member use.
Cheers,

Thanks Dave! Thanks also for the welcome, my soon to be fellow Canberrans!
Matt, I am studying at ANU. I'm enrolled in a Bachelor of Science and I'm going to majoy in Astronomy & Astrophysics.
Ian, joining the Canberra Astronomical Society is already on my list of "things to do as soon as I get to Canberra". I'll be bringing my scope down with me so I won't be scopeless. Although I definitely wouldn't mind using the 14" of course!
Just a quick question to you Canberrans - which suburbs are within a 5 to 10 minute walking distance to ANU? I've been looking around Turner, Lynehan, Downer and the surrounds but I'm not sure about the distances. Thanks for any info.

Silvie,
Yes, Braddon, Turner and Civic are in the 5-10min category. O'Connor,Lyneham,Dixon, Ainslie etc are more like 10-15 min plus. Downer would be 20min or more.
I am sure ANU student services would be able to provide you with additional assistance.
Good luck with your house hunting.

I got my copy today in the mail!
Cover Girl!! And a fantastic article on you as well. The piece on women in astronomy makes you wonder what the male/female ratio is here in IIS.
It's great to put a face to the name. Good luck with the house hunting.
