NGC 3389, 3384, 3379, & M104 Sombrero

Great to see some clear skies over the last few days!

Managed to get 2 sessions in. First was Ngc 3389,3384, 3379. All galaxies. This group has Spiral, Letincular, and Eliptical Galaxies!

Second session I managed to get the Sombrero Galaxy.

All images I used LRGB 20:20:20:20min (x 350 sec each)

Small and faint is how I would describe these targets!

Thanks Ross and MArtin. There was a bit of annoying high cloud around (especially for the Sombrero), so its not as clear as I would of liked.

These galaxies really need a higher Megapixel camera than what I imaged them with to bring out further detail!

Nice image Paul, you are starting to get some detail in the dust lane. Always a dificult target just on size alone.

Thanks Doug - yeah first time I have ever seen the dust lane and inner rings start to come through in one of my shots on the Sombrero!

Thanks, I used 8inch newt on EQ6 with an ATIK 314L+ at -15degC bin 1x1 for all channels (5min each exposure x 4)

With your data try and run with the colour at bin 2x2. This will allow you to capture more colour for the same amount of time while not loosing out on resolution as your Lum channel captures that.

Also the other reason i asked what time you where running is 350 seconds is a odd time 300 seconds is 5 minutes Though its all good at the end of the day.

Also what are you using for collimation of the 8" newt? as you seem to be pretty spot on.

Good idea re binning 2x2 to get more colour. Will try that on my next galaxy target.

I use a laser to collimate. Ther is some funny shapes to he top right. I thibnk its becuase the camera is not square (need to tap a hole and add another fixing screw!)

ah lisdexic moment hehehe. I have them all the time Eg, Maxim take LRGB image sequence... end up with LRGG..... doh!

If you are planning to stay with a newt (bless their little reflecting surfaces) Ide suggest getting a auto collimator as a minimum or the kit from cats eye that has the sight tube, collimated Cheshire and auto collimator. I swear by them and I know people like Sidonio use them too.
