Hi all,
just gathered some rgb for the Ha I had down on this, one of my favourite areas that I seem to try nearly every year... .
Had some great fun trying different techniques to bring out and meld the Ha to the rgb channels and use the rgb for lum with the Ha.

Things were a little soft in the few evenings I did on this due to the farmers around here burning off during the day... always amazes

That's a great image Rich. I like the contrast you've achieved between the wall and the rest of the area.

I also like the fact you've brought out the Ha areas without overwhelming the image into being total red. There is a nice balance of other colours going on there that creates a pleasant blend of colours.

Very nicely done and a classy image. You've done some super images lately. I am still thinking about your fabulous NGC5101 image. A ripper.

Looks great Rich! looking at your straight Ha(when clicking in your full res)I think you've done a really good job with the blend mate.

This is exactly as I saw it Greg, I like to see the true star colours in an image even with Ha...plus other textures from the rgb data.(forget about all narrow band.. another ball game) And some Ha blended images while they look ok, seem to totally dominate the whole field. Fine if the neb is predominantly HII and nothing else, but when you have a mixture of stuff going on, it seems a shame not to show it.
This image took me quite a while to find a good balance as you've astutely pointed out.. had to really show off the wall to emphasize the emission, so lots of computer time with trying different tecs from within PS and Maxim.
There are areas where there are older golden stars with dust, pockets of reflection nebula, predominant areas of extreme HII star formation going on(the wall) then other ares where there's a mixture of all the above.
To try and show these things off was the challenge and glad you've appreciated my efforts!!

The exercise was an interesting one and I used so many tricks learnt...
As I was trying different things, I fondly recall Mike S saying when asked how he processed his image..
'Like cooking a spaghetti bolognese, a little bit of this, a little bit of that'

Great when something that has you beat, suddenly opens a door and lets you in.
Love that about processing.... the imagination is the key..

Yes good to have a challenge, makes the finished product that little bit more appreciated.
Been meaning to get some SII & OIII filters, just the different areas that are enhanced compared with standard fair.. how you can make things look sooo 3D.. mmm just something else..

Not to sure about the colour definition on this one good contrast in the nebulae and plenty of detail I think maybe trying to achieve the definition in the nebuale has washed out the background a bit ( or the smoke) IMO, I'd also work to lessen the star halo's that are sometimes caused during stretching. Well done otherwise

There isn't actually a great deal of 'colour' to the general area with straight broadband rgb... no 'smoke' to speak of... it is comprised mainly of dark molecular clouds/ nebula, a little reflection given off from the bright open cluster Ngc6193. Some areas where dust and golden stars have aged and the walls out line is sparsely defined via the red channel, obviously. The HII as can be seen from my straight Ha composite is endemic to the whole area, concentrated along the ridge, dissipating further away from the 'wall'.
I feel imo, I have struck up an even balance between the broad and single narrow band.. of course using Ha brings in a certain 'artistic license'
The couple of halos are actually produced from the filters, seem to appear only on bright blue stars...
This is one object that really benefits using straight narrow band filters.
No, on a whole, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Once I did a bit more of a boost and sharpen to a few selected dark areas along the wall, I was quite surprised at the detail that came through. Much better definition than on previous occasions..
The night/s were a bit fuzzy star wise, so they are a little soft so I left them pretty much as they were, except for sharpening selected areas of the smaller golden/ red-orange star groups to try and bring some depth to the overall star field.

Very nice Rich. Colours are pretty good and the image is well contrasted. Maybe just a little too aquamarine on the blue stars for my liking ( I know how hard it is to get the blue stars right when Ha blending). Overall an excellent image.

I know what you're saying with the almost aqua/ blueish tinge... the Ha does tend to really wash things and then of course we need to saturate them somewhat.. I did a reblend of the original RGB star data via layers back over the adjusted composite, while adequate, just not perfect after some more adjustments.

Have followed your PME thread, hope you have sorted the dramas out with it, they are indeed a great mount...

Yeah I found this aspect to be one of the hardest to deal with. I think watching the green in the image helps though. Removing some green sometimes reduces the aquamarine colouring. Although in your image there does not even seem to be a hint of green caste.

Every image I produce I could easily go back over the data. There is always something I don't like about each image. Sometimes there are too many things to worry about.

Yeah I am hoping the mount is fine now. Clear night here tonight but I am gonna need to do a full day tomorrow on pricing and cannot really afford to drive down the south east. Real bummer. Thanks for your interest.
