Jupiter from DP, 25th January

David Pretorius sent me a cdrom with some raw jupiter data that he purchased on the black market... err... I mean "took with his own scope".. :-)

Having nothing better to do while waiting for a break in the weather I thought I would process it for him, so here is it.

DP you'll have to chip in with the details? I stacked about 300 frames each in RGB, deconvolved in Astra Image using ME.

You can see the GRS just rising on the right hand edge of the planet.

regards, Bird

thanks bird, legend!!

these were 120 second runs at 5fps in raw mode for the toucam. Seeing was very nice.

For my limited experience, i rated it 8 or 9/10, Bird, how would you have gauged it???

ice, rocket and asimov also have copies of the cd's so I can't wait for their processing efforts.

I had to share the great seeing conditions.

As bird mentioned to me via pm, the collimation and focus could do with a touch up. I am waiting on baree's impression of the orions hand held focusser, and it it works well, i will make one or buy one.

The disc rocked up today mate. I doubt weather I'll do such a good job as bird on it but I'll give it a shot.

The features on the disk were very steady, so the seeing might possibly have been up around 8/10 or better. However there might also have been some jetstream or upper-air turbulence that results in a slightly fuzzy image, so that would detract from the seeing a bit.

do not understate your processing capabilities! mr underestimov!

Bird and Mike and I tend to process one way, you and rob different. I have always been keen to see how the exact same data would turn out.

looking forward to it!

it has been converted back to colour frames, so you should be fine. you have the red / green / blue there to process individually if you want and then combine in astral image if need be
