Saturn - 8 April 2011

I still see myself as pretty much a newby to imaging and processing, but anyway... Friday night conditions seemed the best in a long long time so I set up and had a go again.
CPC11, DMK21AU, IC capture 2.2, luminescent filter, 2xbarlow.
800 frames out of approx 2700 stacked in Registax 5. Yes it mono.

Hi Tony, looks like conditions were good, CD & rings seem crisp.

The ghost on the right hand limb of the planet and extremity of the ring ansae is interesting. Asi has a C-11 so maybe he could advise on the possible cause of it, initially when I saw it I thought it maybe due to collimation but the rest of the image seems unaffected.

Good work.
Regards
Trevor

Thanks Troy & Trevor.

Trevor, not sure about the 'ghosting' myself. I initially thought it might have been focussing, but as you said the CD and rings seem crisp. Maybe I might have some clear but distorted frames in the stack?

I processed it again but this time with 1500 frames. A little clearer but still getting the 'ghosting' affect. I've attached the reprocessed image to this reply.

Nice work Tony. If you were imaging in colour, I would have guessed that it might have been one of the channels out of alignment.

Nice work Tony. Yes I believe the ghosting is a slight miscollimation. Might pay to check this on a good night. It also could be sag from something in the imaging train like a barlow etc. Best way I've found is to collimate on a star at the FR you are going to be working at with the cam.

The images look skewed diagonally as well for some reason.

Nice detail Tony. Agree with John that collimation may be an issue, particularly imaging train sag. slight skewing could also be from this source. regards Ray
