Dreams

I was certain there was a Dreams thread already on here but I can't seem to track it down so I thought I would start a new one.

I am questioning a strange thing that happened to me last night and that has happened about two or three times now.

As far as I am aware, I am sleeping when this happens. But I feel as if I am awake and hallucinating a huge spider crawling on my curtain and I can see it as clear as day even though it is dark in my room. I freak out, shoot upright in bed thinking it is actually happening and turn on my light. The first time it happened I searched my room high and low for half an hour before I started to realise it wasn't real. Even last night it took me quite awhile to get comfortable again as it really muddled up my head.

Does anyone know what exactly is going on or what this is known as?

Cheers,

Shell

'Arachnophobia' is the spider part!
Sorry, Shelley but I don't know the real reason for the hallucination part of your dreams.
Someone here will certainly know I'm sure.

Hi Shell, that sounds positively frightening you poor thing!
I really do hope that doesn't happen to you again.

The dreams thread that you couldn't find is here (one of my threads).

hypnagogic hallucination
relatively common experience
occurs typically at boundary between awake and falling asleep, extremely vivid experience.
discuss with GP at next check up

It was extremely scary, I hate spiders! I can deal with the small, cute jumping spiders but big spiders, I am running FAR FAR AWAY!

Ahhh thanks for the link Suzy, turns out I just wasn't looking hard enough

Hey Frank, thanks for the info! I had a feeling it was this but really wasn't too sure. Sure has to be vivid if I think it's actually happening, so creepy! My Mum use to have the same thing except she would think she saw dog's in the bedroom.

I will ask GP what he thinks but it has only happened three times and is not occurring on a regular basis. Although sometimes I do spaz out in my sleep, I use to thrash around like I was being attacked and never remember it. I'm sure everything is okay though

I have had this happen to me several times and Pam has a hard time telling me that nothing is there I still don't believe her even after half an hour later

According to my book of dreams, dreaming of a spider means Much happiness; seeing a spider at night means Plenty of Money and an Unmarried Woman dreaming of a spider means A proposal of Marriage!

and just by the way , a few nights ago I awoke with me swiping the air with my arm and grunting! I was half awake- half asleep and cant remember what I was swiping at....but it felt real and do remember the sound I made and the movement.....I thought later that there might have been somebody in the room and I was swiping at that!

It seems so real at the time, doesn't it!? And my brain just won't let it go and I keep looking and expecting it to appear again.

I wish it meant lots of money, bring on the hallucinations if you're right And that's crazy Bart and more than a little unnerving!

Well, it happened again. Last night I was just getting to sleep and I hallucinated a spider hanging from the ceiling on a web. I absolutely freaked out and shot up in bed saying "Oh my god, there's a spider! I'm serious, there is actually a spider!" and woke up Jase with my absolute spaz out. Had to turn on the light and search the floor to check there wasn't in fact a spider. Even afterwards I was still hesistant about believing my partner when he said there wasn't a spider lol. Took me soooo long to get back to sleep because I had my eyes continually glued to the wall to make sure the spider didn't make an appearance again My skin was crawling, it was horrible.

Stupid brain, what are you doing??

I have a good one for the "dreamologists" in the group.

This is not my story but told to me by someone.
In her dream she picked up an electric shears to cut someone's hair and got an electric shock. That in itself is nothing but when awake she says she felt the pain in her hand for hours later.

Cutting someones hair with 'Shearers' means joy, happiness and prosperity.

Being 'shocked by electricity' means you will be cheated by friends.

"shock" has many a meaning.....

of a shock; will overcome enemies with perseverance

being shocked by bad news; will have mastery over own affairs

shocking other people; beware of a trap being laid for you

Make of it what you will........
Its all specific to your circumstances.......
These are just excerpts from my book about dreams.....
Google your query and the word dream and it will give you lots of similar answers....

Here in QLD you don't have to dream about them in your room - It's a reality! I'm an arachnophobiac & on quite a few occasions I've felt something either walking over my face or under the covers, to shoot out of bed turn on the light to discover.....
