Ravenswood Star Party

What the heck, we are having a star party too.

This will be held on April 1st and 2nd at Ravenswood showgrounds, about 2 1/2 hrs WSW on Townsville.

Everyone is invited, this is a great weekend. We were there last year, and though was freezing (0 dg), we all had a ball. Plenty of room to pitch a tent, showers and loos there, or, there are cabins at 'Top Camp' about 1 km from the showgrounds.

There is a concrete cricket pitch in the middle of the grounds, if you are quick enough to grab a spot. This faces north/south for those needing to orientate their scopes.

Lovely dark skies, though there is an opencut mine nearby, only a little light in that direction (east from memory).

We usually get there Friday arvo, or come on Saturday otherwise. All you pay is for your site, or a cabin, which was also pretty cheap.

Anyone tempted??

Very tempted Liz, can you talk to my boss? Do you have a promise on the weather?

Oh, you guys do it tough down there. I will put it to our club and see whether we need to do this.
Would be great to see you there Paul, see how the dreaded weather goes leading up to it.

It love to be able to come up Liz and be a part of it, but I can't see me getting the time off either week to make the trip. Besides if I came up there and didn't go and see the family I'd get skinned .

But if this is going to be a regular event I'll put it into my date book for next year.

What perfect timing, Rob F and I we were looking for somewhere to go that weekend. Is there power on the site? Can you leave your gear set up for the 2 nights? And can I order clear skies as well?
Thanks
Martin

Hope so Molly, we are a pretty quiet lot up here, but had a great turn out last year for it .... for us anyway.

Can be a tad confusing, your Ravenswod would have nice dark skies too.

I know, its a beauty, but surprisingly, the light is not a big interference, just a little one.

Just hope the weather improves.
