DSLR remote HD for iPad now available.

As the title says DSLR remote for iPad has been released, a little steep at $59.99 and they still haven't addressed the intervalometer/long exposure deficiency, I've emailed the developer, they say its being considered for " future development". If anyone is interested it may be worth emailing them to give the development team a little extra incentive to make DSLR remote in to a "proper" astronomy tool.

Phil can you explain the long exposure deficiency - if it didn't offer such features surely it is next to no good, though i would love a tool for my iPad - hopefully they can include a drift align tool

Long exposures over 30 seconds are restricted to using bulb mode, that is you press the on screen release, watch the elapsed time on the screen then press again when the time is up, the final image will then display on the Ipad/pod.

The intervalometer will time a number of exposures but once again only a maximum of 30 seconds. So it's manually timed bulb exposures or maximum of 30 seconds. If they fix the limited exposure time it will be a killer app.

I agree that's sh!t, if they can add that & some cross hairs it will be excel, the remote pro seems better value if you dontwant video.
Hang on , you still have to have your computer connected ?, seems like a waste of $60

Not a waste of money, the ability to alter your camera setings and fire the shutter remotely (e.g. From inside your house) and review the image and to be able to move around freely is a real bonus. You need your laptop to provide the I/F to the DSLR and for guiding and storage anyway.

I absolutely agree Phil - you need the laptop out there anyway for guiding. It's a no-brainer. Being inside all toasty with the scope outdoors in winter is fantastic. I've been doing it all long enough not to need to stand with the scope any more to prove that I'm "involved". All I want is data - and the scope can freeze for me.

I too, however, am severely disappointed that the intervalometer still restricts you to 30 sec exposures, and I've let Mike Wong know that in no uncertain terms. It's damned ridiculous that a $30 eBay remote timer will give you that freedom and this won't. I also think that at $60 it's ridiculously priced - when the iPhone Pro version is less than half the price - and apart from the real estate offers the same functionality. I've emailed them twice, submitted a review and just added to the blog. I also pointed out that iTap can provide similar functionality using Canons software interface.

Why not just vnc into the laptop from you Ipad/iphone. You see everything and can operate everything thats on your computer from your living room.

Chris, I thought that that was what you were doing? Or are you an ipad app junkie (like myself) .
