Duck portrait

Hi all,

Here's a Pacific Black Duck, captured at the Mt Coot-tha botanic gardens the other day, using my 70-200 telephoto @ 200mm. It was a fairly tame specimen, so I was able to get nice and close. A little bit more DoF would have been good, but I was still happy with how this one came out.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Hey Stephen. I agree with you on the DOF. The soft edges on the beak do draw the eye away. Framing-wise, the tip of the beak is just off the edge, so the back of it's head should also be just off the edge. Perhaps a little bit more space in front of the beak would be good.

Your exposure is good and the eye is nice and sharp. Good details in the feathers.

Baz.

Great shot nonetheless. Lovely detail and sharpness. 70-200 f/4 or 2.8?

Thanks for the comments Baz, Ric, Liz, Ron, Troy and Adam!

Troy, this was the f/4 non-IS lens.

Cheers,
Stephen
