Does anyone know how much it costs to resurface a 12'' mirror?

I havent used my dob in over a year and decided to drag it out side tonight. When I took off the mirror cover to my horror there is one large black ring about the size of a 20c piece and lots of smaller ones all over the mirror.

At first I thought it was fungas but I think it's silver coating over the glass that is disfigured.

Doing a search on here only turns up this thread http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...or+resurfacing

Would I be cheaper buying another scope instead of doing a refurb??

Thanks

I've had my 12" LB for 6 years, but the coatings began to fail after 18 months. This appears to be a common happening with the Chinese mirrors.
I picked up my newly recoated 12" mirror from Isaac at Chi Qin on Friday.
I had the opportunity AND CLEAR SKIES to try it out at our MAS observing session last night.
WOW, what a difference it has made to the image......a lot more contrast and the knowledge that the coating won't fail after 18 months.
With care, he told me that the coatings should last AT LEAST 10 YEARS.
Master mirror maker, Mark Sutching (Satchmo) uses Chi Qin for all his mirror coatings.
The cost for a 12" is $389, 16" $545 and a 10" $268.
A secondary is $95 ( from a 16" LB) smaller secondaries maybe less.
Forget the rest and use ONLY THE BEST!!

Thanks guys.

It's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. How long did it take him to complete the job?

Thanks

Ten days to 2 weeks, depending on his workload.
Definately a Full Moon job.
