Stellarium for Ubuntu 10.04 10.10

Is it normal for Stellarium to have a delay of one or two seconds after pressing the mouse button???

No!
What is your fps. What is your video card. Sounds like you are missing open Gl drivers

The FPS is on the bottom menu bar Between FOV and the Date
it will be something like 40.3FPS if the video accelerator is working or less tah 2.0 FPS if it is not.

I don't know that video chipset but in general intel chipsets have drivers in Ubutu

Wher did you get stellarium. Was it in the repository or did you compile it. The repository version is quite an old version. (0 10.4 I think)

It's NVidia, Barry.

At least it isn't an ATI card, Ken. Their Linux support is woeful.

Have you tried the NVidia proprietry drivers?

OK, the refresh rate is between 0.79 and 1.4, it keeps moving.
I shall look for nvidia drivers.
I down loaded the, what is it called?, from ububtu com, and burned it to a disk.
When will we see you again Andrew?
Thank you
Ken

Hi Ken

That FPS rate shows that you do not have OpenGl accellerator drivers for your display. You will need to identify the Nvidia chip set and down load/install the drivers from Nvidia

I have a similar problem on this computer with Linux in the fact that there are no Linux drivers for my video card (SIS 661).

Also that Stellarium version is way out of date. We have come a long way since that one.

Building from source is quite easy. The instructions are in the Stellarium Wiki.

It should take less than 30 minutes to set up and then you can build every time there is an update.

Brief instructions:
In the terminal paste the Ubuntu dependancies list.
execute it.
This will install the dependancies in one go
Then download the (bzr) source into a "stellarium" folder

Make the build folder in stellarium /builds/unix

Then follow the compiling directions _ easy peasy!
