Lightning - One from the archives

Hi All,

Still learning and bumbling along with Astro photography but going through some old photos, I thought I might post this one.

It's quite old being taken last year but I hadn't joined IIS until later in the year. I hope this is ok.

Over here in the west, we rarely get any storms in summer. In fact the constant sun/heat and lack of rain starts to get to you after a few months and you start looking forward to some wet weather. Last year was particularly bad but this year is not much better. When I took this photo in March, it was our first rain since late October 2009.

Anyway, it was an opportunistic shot given I took it from home and strike was that close, I was about jump back into my dog's kennel

I posted the shot to the local paper to see if it had any chance then next minute it's on the front page of our local paper. You just never know.

I hope you enjoy & thanks for looking and pity about the scaffolding at the bottom but I was panning very quickly.

Cheers,
Darrin...

Dear All,

Thanks for your kind comments and glad you liked it.

I personally wouldn't recommend getting that close unless you're stuck and the storm comes to you!

Cheers,
Darrin...
