Clouds of Magellan now has section for sketches

My Magellanic Clouds Observing Guide web site http://www.cloudsofmagellan.net.au/ now has a section for sketches of the Large Magellanic Cloud. Many thanks to Scott Mellish, Ken James (ballaratdragons) and Sab Szalai (PGC Hunter) for their contributions. And to Alex Massey (mental4astro) for facilitating the process.

If you have any sketches that you'd like posted on the site of the LMC, SMC or any of the deep sky objects they contain please email me (patrick@cloudsofmagellan.net.au) or PM me. I would love to include as wide a range of sketches from observers with varying equipment and skill levels, so please don't feel daunted by the extraordinary levels of skill in the sketches posted so far.

If you haven't visited the site for a while, there are more images of the LMC now posted, a new section of images of the SMC, PDFs of observation notes by Mark Johnston (astrospotter) as well as by myself. There are also "linked observation notes" on more objects in the LMC. These are notes (so far by myself, but soon to include other observers) with links to the object. on the charts, DSS images and links to any research or science news articles related to the object. They can be accessed from the Notes tab under LMC on the menu or from the charts themselves - the object designation on the chart is the link. There are still about 400 objects in the LMC that I have yet to post in this way, so its early days for this yet. If you have observation notes that you'd like to post again please email or send me a PM. I would like to include a range of notes from as many observers as possible.

The current collection is made up of real gems, Paddy.

I'll look to add to it too.

Would objects immediately surrounding the LMC & SMC qualify too, such as 47Tuc?

Actually, I've got something to add, its a sketch I did of the Tarantula and surrounds with my C5 some 15 years ago.

I'll PM you further details, and we'll see if the image needs more resolution for you site.

Cheers,

Alex.

Nice set of sketches on your site Paddy

I noticed a couple of Tarantulas done with a 4.5" and 8" scope - incidentally in the same orientation aswell... great juxtaposition of the difference aperture makes there.

They are nice - some very good sketchers. And more to come soon. And it is great having the sketches using different scopes - especially done by the same talented observer to give an idea of the variation in what can be seen.
