Poor goto's when using eq mod but fine with syn scan???

Hi guys.

Wow, Have I been having problems with my set up of late.

My latest is poor goto's when I use eq mod on my heq pro 5 (wonder why they put a pro in the name ,) but fine when I use the hand controller only.

Goto's are out about 3 deg, but in some parts of the sky it's fine. Polar alignment is good so it's not that, it's not the cable as I got a new one on the weekend. I've even reinstalled all the software. I've checked the day light saving is correct, time is set via the Internet.

I have a lot of Dec backlash but it's never been an issue before and it guides fine (after a lot ot faffing around during the week) I'm stumped. Can anyone shed some light???

Thanks
Sandy

I once had similar problem and it was due to the lat/long entered being different in EQMOD and planitarium software.

If that doesn't work check to see if any alignment points are getting loaded when you open EQMOD. You might have a bad point or two.

Were you using the same alignment stars as the HC? I think (but don't quote me on this) the algorithm used is different between EQMOD and the Synscan controller. Assuming they are different, one would expect a slightly different result? I know I wouldn't expect that but it could be possible. When I was using EQMOD a couple of years ago, I found one star alignment enough when the mount was properly aligned.

If you are a member of the EQMOD yahoogroups, have you put the question forward to them?

Good point. Do you use the H/C at all? If you do, don't. In my case mine is back in the box, and I use CdC and the EQDIRECT cable only, nothing else. Like Andrew, normally one star is good enough.

There are some good tutorials on youtube:

And this one in particular that goes through alignment:

Had a similar problem. Eq5 eq mod stallerium. was sending me crazy. Wasted all night at Wiruna one night trying to get goto. Out about 3 deg every time. Finally figured it out. Once you unpark your mount you can hit "reset sync" and " reset align star data" in eqmod. Then perform your goto on two stars. Should be fine. Remember to only reset AFTER you unpark!
