Orion Widefield

I dusted off my Canon 50mm (nifty-fifty) lens to try out a few wide field shots the other night.

I had severe pin-cushioning at f2 but found reasonable results at f5.6

This image is at F5.6, 8 x 3min subs, 15 x 3min darks taken with my Modded Canon 20D. Levels, curves and noise reduction with Photoshop CS3. I also used the Geometry function in IRIS to flatten the image.

The background looks clipped, not sure. Comments/suggestions welcome

Thanks for looking

Nice one. I'm trying to do that too in RGB. I did a test in Ha but I had massive coma on the edges of my lens. I'll have to try to zoom in a bit like what you did next time.

Marc,Troy thanks for the kind words. Marc stopping down to F5.6 greatly improved the image. I still needed to use IRIS to help flatten out the curvature. Try out the geometry feature I think it works well although I haven't put the images through CCD Inspector to check.
