NGC2024 - Flame Nebula

Managed to get in a brief session last night 7x10 min subs through the Ha filter. I'm happier with this than my last attempt with the Ha filter however it still needs a lot more exposure to tame the noise.

lovely image Peter, your using the QHY8? so this isn't temperature noise rather it is signal noise - cant quite tell from this one posted but the top right and lower left areas look like slightly elongated stars? Man i love the filament detail of the flame. I have the gear just not got the time yet to try this i am still struggling to set up the dome.

Cheers Dave. This was with the QHY8 pro at -15C. There was a bit of drift - I changed the orientation of the mount so the leg is under the counter weights and haven't treaked the polar alignment yet.

I still haven't worked out which way is up. I'm just happy to get it on the chip!

Thanks for the encouragement H. It looks like the weather is going to turn bad for a while but might come back to this one as it is well placed at this time of year for me.

Thanks Rich - luckily we did not get any flooding here (although we were expecting it). The humidity has been very high lately - even late into the evening.

Cheers Troy. I think the object brightness is playing a big part - less stretching needed.
