It is a wee bit chill here!
No, I don't mean IIS (although some recent posts have been chilly in my opinion).
I'm talking about the temperature here in the NE USA...expect it to hover near 0 degrees F (well below zero C).
It is hard to get excited about the night sky when frostbite is a real threat. I sure do miss January viewing in shorts...but I guess I don't have to fight mozzies either.

Hey Scott,
I will be flying to NewYork on Wednesday and I have my long johns packed.
I am going to be doing some observing in the everglades in Florida next week and that should be a little warmer.

Might be cold, but I'd much prefer it to 30-35 degree heat and high humidity.
Just stay rugged up
Oh, and get an observing seat with a heater built in!!!

Hi Scott,
Sounds like the heating expenses will be high this season.
Maybe I shouldnt tell you that we are observing in Shorts and "T" shirts at present. ( Thats when we get some stars instead of clouds. )
You wont have any trouble getting the beers cold though....
Maybe you will need more than Dew heaters as well. Some de-icing heaters for the scope may be in order.
I hope both you and your family are well.
Tonight is shaping up for an observing session OK. The Moon will be up later as its past Full now.
To Change the subject , and to let you know about my much loved bino-viewers that you put me onto.....A funny story about my Denk Binos.
I had some trouble with them blurring on occasion even after cleaning them a few times.
I kept finding spider webs in them, so after much thought and being unable to see this elusive little blighter...I left the binos in the hot sun for a while, where upon the spider must have found them too hot, and came crawling out while I was watching. He was on his way to a new home thankfully.
The binos have been OK ever since.
Cheers and all the best Buddy.
Geoffro.

Wasn't Toronto supposed to be -28C (-18F) overnight Saturday and -12C (10F) the max Sunday?
The guys in Edmonton must think it's summer at only -2C.

Blimey that's cold.
Sounds like you need a heated suit just to go outside.

Be careful and ready for snow...another big storm is coming in Tuesday or Wednesday...should be some more snow and possible blizzard!
Your flight might be diverted...

Keeping everything warm is a challenge! I am glad you are now enjoying "clear" bino views. They are fun!
Cheers!

Thanks Dave, we are trying to do something here to remember Australia Day...We had thought we might cook something on the BBQ but I don't think the weather will cooperate. May have to ask my wife to make lamingtons. We can by a version of TimTams. Maybe some lamb shanks...
Cheers!

No doubt Chicago can get cold...and the wind coming off the lake makes it an interesting place in the winter.

I largely agree and prefer cold to heat (I've got some built in insulation) but this is a little extreme.

I think you are right! Most certainly hat and gloves.
Temperature when I left home this morning was a balmy -11 F (that is -24 C)...
I am hopeful that my car starts when I get back to the parking lot this evening.
I won't even go into the wind chill...it is bone chillingly cold and actually quite dangerous to be out in if yo are unprepared. Frostbite and hypothermia are real risks for those outside.
