damaged phone due to storm
We had a doozy of a storm here last night - had turned off PC and telly, and curled up on the couch with fingers in my ears, singing lalalalaa. It was right overhead, well, felt like it, very scary.
Anyway, lost some power in the house, so ventured outside when storm had moved on, and after turning some switches on and off, I got full power back.
Alas, my NEW cordless phone phone wont work, power wont get to it, despite trying a couple of power points.
Is there any way for a quick repair, as dont wont to hurl it at the wall yet.

It went right around us here, in town. Only caught the tail end of it
Still, not worth trifling with!!!!.
If the base has burnt out, not much you can do except buy a new one.

Yes, reckon will have to hurl it, but no burn marks, and didnt hear any noise come through it .... like a power surge boom??
Its a bugger as only had it about 2 weeks.

Not all surges will cause burn marks or any visable damage. A small surge can do enough damage to chips/circuitry to either leave it still working (but doing odd things and fail later on) or in your case, enough damage to stop it working completely.
I saw this countless many times while working as a Computer Tech up in Darwin, which is one of the most lightning prone places in Australia.
It doesn't take a "hollywood electrical surge" to kill electronics.

Sorry to hear that Liz, but it looks like a new Phone for you
It happened to me a few years ago, it is cheaper to buy another one than get them fixed
The Telstra phones don't have as much electronics in them so don't have much of a problem
Cheers

Hey jen ... It actually does wonders in blocking out a lot of the thunder!! One huge flash of lightning was IMMEDIATELY followed a huge crackle then BOOM, very close.
OK, looks like I have to ditch my brand new Uniden cordless phone with answering machine - I hadnt even set it up properly, Oh well could have been worse, and been the telly or laptop.
Thanks all.

OH, we are so much alike Liz. I don't "do" storms either.
Good luck with the phone.

Hi Liz
Do you have house insurance? You might be able to claim for it.
Cheers Rick

Hi Liz, surge may have occurred via the telephone line. Most phones are not repairable.
