Astronomy Books Donation

Good morning guys, I have a question in regard to collection of Astronomy books, some 130 in all, which i have collected over the past 30 years or so, and all are in excellent to mint condition.

Before we decided to do some traveling they, the books were proudly displayed on my book shelf in the computer room that Alice and I shared, we did call it our play room.

Now the books are stored, and could be in storage for years, who knows.

I thought I might donate these books to an Astronomical Society or such as a one off whole collection, and was wondering do theses societies accept this sort of offer, the offer is free of coarse.

I would rather see these books put to good use rather than just sitting in storage.

Your answer would be appreciated.

Leon

My suggestion will sound terrible but I believe selling them may find them better homes than by gifting them.

But I know the problem you face. When you finally decide to "do the trip" (in my case a coastal cruise from which I plan no return) one hopes others can get benefit from ones accumulated but cant take with you treasures... but as I suggested I doubt if gifts of valuable stuff is appreciated in so many cases.

It is great to see your are doing it Leon happy travels to the both of you.

Hi Leon,

I know the ASNSW has a library and they accept donations of books in good condition, I would say that your local AS would be the same.

G'day, That is a most generous offer . The other option is to auction/sell them off and donate the proceeds to various causes that are helping the thousands of people that are in dire need - not just here in Brisbane, but also Central Qld, Victoria, in fact all around the country. This country seems to be at the mercy of nature and various other elements at the moment. Maybe even approach a charity organisation and donate to them to auction/sell them. I know that I will certanly be looking at some books to buy (being new to this hobby), and I would rather buy them of such an organisation than of an overseas distributor.

Mate, your blood's worth bottling. Your kindness is becoming a rarity these days, with the self serving attitude that I seem to encounter daily. Well done

Regards, Dutch

Thank you guys, for your response, we leave for our 2nd very long trip in 3 weeks so a decision will be made in that time.

Our test run to Queensland was fantastic, and after a few minor fix it jobs we are ready to do the big one, mind you we beat the Dubbo floods home by one week.

Heading in your direction Doug, "WEST"
