Donations to QLD flood victims

Hi All,

I have stated twice on another thread that we should be more constructive, so I've started this thread.

Donations to the flood victims can be made at http://telethon.smartservice.qld.gov.au/

I've just donated $100, care to match it or better it?

Cheers
Stuart

Way to go Ric, if I had been near a Woolies that would be better as they are actually making a killing out of the crisis. Did you see the empty supermarket shelves?

Cheers

I missed that you can donate at Woolies and be matched, damm.

Whats the maximum they will take and match?

I just put in 1K at the Commonwealth bank but will probally put in another at Woolies if they will match it.

When do they end it at woolies?

The Qld flood appeal has slowed down a little and todays reports was at around 60 Mill. Considering its going to be the worst natural disaster on property in Aust. history, and no disrespect to the Vic bush fire disaster which raised over 400Mill well deserved and needed funds I think we need to spread the word on how bad this state of ours has been trashed and thousands have lost everything most also could not get full flood cover or were in areas that could not get cover and to get this fund alot more.
Alot of buisiness and farms will not recover including friends of mine.
I have had to wait till tommorow to go to Rocklea which is one of the worst hit areas to help some friends out to clean up there buisiness and they inform me that when you get onto the front line you will be stunned at what you see, TV does no justice on the scale of this.
We had various friends who are in this mess come to our place over the weekend and all are in some type of shell shock. The looks on their faces and the way they talk is of some concern to me as they are in emotional shock.
There is going to be some long term mental issues as well regarding what has happened, I read in the paper that upto 70% of people who have been through these floods will have some kind of emotional impact. Thats thousands.

Its not just the Brisbane/Ipswich/Lockyer valley area but 75% of our state, so please dig deep, put off that small up coming purchase and make a donation big or small it all helps.

I am lucky, my home/buisiness was not affected but I was going to get a new TV but thought the one I have will be ok for another 12months so will be donating the lot to the fund.

If you are going to buy something for yourself soon thats material and is something you may be able to do without for a few monthsthen maybe donate these funds, get a tax deduction and if woolies will match this then double good.

Hi guys, the offer was put out in one of their promotional emails that my wife gets sent to her.

Therefore I would say it applies to all woolies stores.

Yeah, saw it advertised on the telly last night, so it's Aus wide. Even if you still shop at Safeway!

Cheers

It’s easy to help. For every dollar donated by individual customers at our checkout, the Woolworths Group will match it with another dollar until midnight, Thursday 20th January, 2011. Or you can click here to make an online donation directly to The Salvation Army (only individual customer donations processed through our checkouts can be matched). All money donated will go to The Salvation Army to support families affected by the recent floods. Funds from donations at point of sale & online donations will go to The Salvation Army, Australian Eastern Territory, 140 Elizabeth Street, Sydney 2000.
I highlighted the bit about the Woolworths Group, so in other words Big W and Dick Smith's are also involved (a notice I read at Woolies today confirmed this).

I quickly skimmed over a notice they had about this at the checkout but I didn't see anything about a limit on how much you can donate. So I assume there isn't one.
