Stellarium 0.10.6.1 and plugin nebula images

Is anyone having troubles getting the plugin nebula images running on Stellarium 0.10.6.1? I got a feeling they only run on 10.5 or older. I can see them in the program files/stellarium/nebula/default but they wont load at start up. Things like orion/lagoon nebula are ok but things like ngc3628/ngc4945 are not showing even though they are in the default directory!!
Any ideas?
Stephen

Noticed another problem...can't configure the "ocular" plugin. The symbol is there at the bottom of the screen and highlights on/off but in the plug in menu the configure button is washed out. The "angle measure" and "compass marks" also have the same problem but they actually work on screen. Note .. everything is ticked to load at start up, so it should load.

Interesting, I cannot get the new comet to appear when I search. I've added the script to ssystem.ini but the default data is in an unformatted form, no line breaks. Have they changed something in the way it loads up it's data ?

When you say "unformatted form, no line breaks" did you open the file with Notepad? Notepad can not cope with files formatted in Unix or Mac formats.

Try WordPad instead. Better still a proper plain text editor like Notepad++

If you are running 0.10.6.1 you can import the data direct from the MPC.
<F2>
"Plugins"
"Solar System Editor" (if "Load at startup" is not ticked, tick it, go back to the "Main" tab, "Save settings", quit and restart Stellarium, then get back to here)
"configure"
"Solar System" tab
"Import orbital elements in MPC format..."
"Comets" radio button
"Download a list of objects from the Internet"
"Select bookmark..." -> MPC's list of observable comets"
"Get orbital elements"

You'll get a window with a list of comets.
"Update existing objects"
"Mark all" is simplest, otherwise tick the ones you want
"Add objects"

Close the "Import data" and "Solar System objects" windows

"Main", "Save settings" again, and close the "Configuration" window.

<F3>
type in the box "c/2010 x", the potential completions should now show Elenin, and <enter> should go to it.

If you want something not in the MPC list, use the "Online search" tab, type in the name eg "45P", click the magnifying glass and it should find you the values. It seems to be broken at the moment but usually works.

Hi Stephen
I don't know what the nebula images you got were but try these download sites:

http://sarcasmogerdes.dyndns.org/ste...mnebulae-1.zip

for the nebulae

http://sarcasmogerdes.dyndns.org/ste...-patch0106.zip

for a patch that may improve the ocular plugin

http://sarcasmogerdes.dyndns.org/ste...ds/ssystem.zip

for a large ssystem.ini with many extras

The washed out view of the configure button is probably a video problem on your display. Try setting the brightness, contrast and gamma. The proper display of nebulae also depends on these items and should be set for your screen using a grey scale stairstep.

I decided to uninstall everthing and start again with the patch. This fixed the missing nebulae problem but the occular configure button still will not work. It shows up on the screen and the symbols is highlightable but just can't configure it. I'll keep pluging on.
Regards
Stephen

Hi Stephen

I can't see why the configure button does not work on your set up. Mine works correctly. When you press it a second window should appear after a couple of seconds with the entry boxes.

Did you use the new stellarium.exe and libstelmain.dll from the ~patch0106.zip. There have been quite a few changes to the oculars module since 0.10.6.1. This is a special patch to also allow ctrl 8 and 9 to work with the ocular module.

Put this ocular.txt file into documents and settings\your name\application data\stellarium\modules\oculars and rename it ocular.ini and delete the ocular.sqlite

The controls for the ocular module now are:
toggle_oculars=Ctrl+O
toggle_config_dialog=Alt+O
toggle_telrad=Ctrl+B
next_ocular=Ctrl+]
prev_ocular=Ctrl+[
next_ccd=Shift+Ctrl+]
prev_ccd=Shift+Ctrl+[
next_telescope=Shift+]
prev_telescope=Shift+[
toggle_crosshair=Alt+C
ccd_rotation_angle_minor_decrement= Ctrl+8
ccd_rotation_angle_minor_increment= Ctrl+9
ccd_rotation_angle_major_decrement= Shift+8
ccd_rotation_angle_major_increment= Shift+9
ccd_rotation_angle_reset=m
Attached Files
File Type: txt ocular.txt (1.7 KB, 10 views)

Thanks Barry. That ini patch worked. I'm using Stellarium on vista and found the directory in
C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Stel larium\modules\Oculars
Cheers mate

The ocular module should work differently in a couple of days. It has been changed again and will have a pull down window instead of the key presses. At the moment it does not work but should be fixed soon.

Sorry about the file location for some reason I thought you were using XP otherwise I would have given that location as well

Looks like there has been quite a few changes. Notepad opened the previous Stellarium ssystem.ini file quite happily with line breaks etc all shown. I'd be cautious using Wordpad due to possible inclusion of formatting characters. I'll look at Notepad++ but looks like Barry has indicated more updates so maybe an update or reload might be a good option.
Thanks for the info. I'll investigate further.

Hi

I use nothing else but wordpad to edit all the text files in stellarium. This include many without extensions as well as .hpp, cpp, ini, json, txt etc. There is no trouble with non text bytes. The ssystem.ini file is read at start up and any syntax error will cause a crash so if you need to edit it make sure there are no missing or extra punctuation marks or conflicting case.

There are some major changes to the oculars module that remove the configuration keybindings and replace them with a pull down menu for configuration. However this change does not work with Windows yet.

The patch0106 from my site is the latest Windows version that works and it now has provision for configuring Binoculars, CCD sensors, lenses and telescopes. The CCD sensor option also has the provision to rotate the view box.
