Is a DGM NPB filter ok for a 5" scope???

Hi all,

Just a quick question.
I'm looking to get a UHC filter for my 5" reflector.
I thought I had decided to get an Astronomik UHC from Bintel, but have recently read in past threads that the DGM NPB filters are highly thought of.
I can get my hands on a second hand one and was wondering if it is too narrow a bandwidth for a 5" reflector.

Not sure. One worked well on the Carina Nebula in my 8" reflector a few years ago.

If you bought one second hand, and then found that you weren't satisfied, I'm sure you could readily sell it again to an IIS member for the same price.

Got a baader UHC-S that I used routinely with my 5" newt. I don't think small aperture is a problem. You just have to correct your color balance during processing when using such filters. Mine did turn the pictures a bit redder.

I haven't found light pollution filters to be useful in smaller aperture telescopes from my light polluted backyard. They provide a worthwhile benefit in the C11 and are marginal in an 8".

I imagine they work better in smaller scopes from a darker site.

Molly, pretty sure you will find it too dark.

But as Eric says DGM NPB are highly regarded so it should be easy to resell.

Bintel sell the Astronomik UHC-E fillter that is recommended for scopes up to 5".
Try Googling for some reviews on this one.
