M78 - 1/1/11 seeing in the new year from the Doghouse Observatory

Well talk about plagued with problems, i had major issues with the DMK and PHD after an automatic update from Microsoft? Then when i finally got over that hurdle the power supply for the Cooled 40D was playing up - the cable got accidentally caught a while ago and my new one is on its way, but the haphazard way i got it to work for the past 2 months finally gave me extreme grief, as a result the cooling was on and off throughout the imaging run, and I also noticed that there is banding in the image. Its not the best image I have done, and it is certainly the very first image of M78 that i have done - it looks a pretty part of the sky and deserves a new imaging run real soon, but it might have to wait until next new moon as the weather isn't looking good for the rest of the week for us. I dont think last nights seeing was all that good in Newcastle?

I really need to get the hyperstar going - but thats a brave step to waste the setup time on a more moon lit night

Anyway - here is the one, the only (version) M78 from the Doghouse Observatory for the 1/1/11

Not too bad Dave considering all the problems you had! I can just make out the banding and a bit of mottling in the colour data I think, but then that may be my crappy monitor. New Year's resolution - buy a decent monitor so I can make intelligent comments

warm nights - failed cooling, electrical interference, but if you need a monitor becasue of the image then fine

That's turned out very nicely houghy especially given the problems you had.

What's the deal with the cable?
You should have let me know and I could have had a look at it while I was in your area during the eclipse.

Looks pretty good to me Dave, and one you could build on, knowing now what you do.
This is the ED127? What length exposure(s)?

yeah thanks Roger - i hadnt looked into the Neb details in full yet - was leaving that until i processed it in full to see what the bits should look like. As i said - its a target worthy of many many more hours and is too often overlooked
