Thats freaky JJJ you must be what 50kms away if that. I just took some rubbish out and its full cloud cover for the north, east and west with a little bit clear to the south. Caboolture is a rain magnet and i guess it must be a cloud magnet as well. Must be something to do with the range.

I woke up at 4am this morning and looked out my window and said MY GOD IT'S FULL OF STARS so I ran out with my bino's for a look around while it lasts. Cloud banked to the North and East. But I am taking it as a sign for a good Astronomical year.

Just woke up...

Well done Houghy!

I spent New Years Eve on the neigbours deck that looks out over Newcastle accross the city from Kotara - beautiful vista (note to self for 2011 - build a deck too!), a clear view of the foreshore fireworks (9pm and Midnight) and drank and ate and was merry ...all the time with an eye on the sky watching Orion arc overhead as the hours passed... thinking of you goys out under it, not jealous, not dissapointed even, just contented at the thought and the scene

Happy New Year guys

Mike
I'll be out under it tonight though!!! ....pack, unpack, pack.....

Happy New Year guys.
Had a bit of a stunner over in Auckland as well. Cooler southerly blew most of the clouds away for about 30% cover and left the seeing above average. Had some friends over and got the 10" out to show them Orion Neb and 47 Tuc as wed ucked between clouds.. Spotted a few other open clusters but too much bubbly and wine to identify them. Then walked down the street to watch a huge Fireworks display over the CBD, $250,000 worth so they said.
Awesome start to 2011, hope it just keeps getting better.
