M51 from the deep south

I wasn't sure whether I should post this one or not because it's not my data. I only did the processing. Then I thought "what the heck", people might like to see it.

I swapped some data with a colleague in the US. He got the Tarantula and I got the Whirlpool galaxy. It's always been one of my favourite galaxies and I enjoyed playing with it.

If people think that this isn't an appropriate post for this forum I apologize in advance.

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

I think there's something really weird happening there.

The image has a flat, dull, pink hue in the arms of the galaxy. And, the centre of the brightest stars also have tended to a magenta ringing effect. Could be too much logarithmic stretching/DDP?

There's some great data there, that's for sure. Perhaps a reprocess is in order?

H

I have to agree with Humi - not sure what you have done, but there is a very odd finish to this.

Cheers

I'll have another look at it. I agree it does look a bit flat.

Detail's great! The green channel's had some kind of problem though. Looking froward to the repro.

Apart from the lack of contrast in the galaxy, it oozes detail.

M51 -take 2

Thanks for the comments guys. This is a quick reprocess and I think it is a significant improvement. I won't go into detail on what I did wrong the first time except to say that I should know better. I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to look at it again for a while because Christmas is starting to intrude. On that subject I hope you all have a merry one.

Cheers

Steve
