Deep inside the Horses Head

Well it just keeps going...gotta get as much out of my infrequent trips as possible ..

As I usually do, here I have homed in on the horsehead itself and extracted as much detail as is avilable from this 6" piece of magic glass.

And to gauge the result...here it is compared to the 8m VLT (remember this was taken at just 1300mm focal length)

There is a lot of interesting information and views one can extract from a single data set, just takes time and patience

Pretty cool comparison Mikie.... you actually picked up nicely that bit of dark thread like structure on the top of its nose....

If you do the cross eyed thing with the comparison image and centre your vision, you get a nice 3D effect...... looks cool on my 24".. best of 8m + 6"... ahhh, that would be stereo vision, although one eye's a bit weaker than the other

Ok.... what else can Mike do to this image... how about a starless version....
I'm kidding of course..... ..... no no don't do it....

Obviously the 6" is a magic piece of glass, plus in very capable hands. I never realised the Horse was acturally a Unicorn. Thanks for the wonderful view Mike. All the best.

Just a bit of fun to do this and yeh I recon the result is kinda cool but you need the good data too.

While not terrible, the seeing as usual was really nothing special over the course of taking the Lum and Ha (that provide the detail here) so I would love to actually get some genuinely steady seeing some day and really extract some fine details .

Well we can only work with what we got...just ask the planetary imagers, even after all the convoluted sharpening techniques they use, seeing makes all the difference in the end.

Nice repro and certain better than the previous version by a long shot in my opinion. When I processed mine I used several techniques to bring out the mane detail and the head detail. Good data makes for easier extraction of those fine details. Well done.

Yeh you got some good detail in your head too, I am sure with the specific techniques I used here you could make a nice comparison with the little 8m scope too

Particularly when you have only 1300mm fl at your disposal, perfect optics good tracking and some careful processing make a lot of difference...if I could just add the seeing it would be perfect
