Death of Gus Mercurio

Another death to add to Norman Hetherington - creator of Mr Squiggle.
Gus has been part of our TV and movie history for a long time, and died today in hospital.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Squiggle when I was a little tacker.
I was always amazed at how clever he was.

What is little known about Gus Mercurio is that he is the person who brought Chiropractic Arts to Australia.

After moving to Ballarat Gus opened a Chiropractic Clinic in Doveton St Ballarat, and when his son Paul (famed actor, singer, choreographer) visited he would occasionally take some of the clients to help clear the backlog of waiting patients.

RIP Gus and Norman.

Gus was a laugh around the set on 'The Sullivans'.
His Aussie accent impersonations were hilarious.

But as an actor I reckon his best work was in 'Man from Snowy River'.

I'll always remember him as Joe Brady from "Cash and Company" and the following series "Tandarra"

Cash and Company (Ch.7) was set in the 1850's gold rush Victoria. Sam Cash and his partner Joe Brady were bushranger fugitives who were helped by sympathisers who lived on a homestead run (Emu Bottom Homestead in Sunbury and surrounds were used during the series, and within 2km from my family home at the time).

And I remember him from the Pink Batts commercials ("You can't get a better batt... and that's that!")

And the home builder commercial "And the big Rancher... 70 Grand"
