Thinking of next big purchase (not anytime soon ) either GSO 16" or the Meade 16"... which has better optics? the GSO is cheaper in Andrews...

tony

The optics will be the same since GSO supply the optics for both scopes

I think a safer way to say this is:

In the past GSO has been a supplier of optics to both their own scopes and also some other third parties including Meade.

I know I may be splitting hairs here (and my apologies for that) but I'm not sure you should say that they are the same...while I do believe that they are from the same supplier I don't think we can know with certainity that they (GSO and Meade) use the same specifications for Quality Control (although I would expect it to be similar if not the same).

I know many people (not a random sample), including myself that have been pleased with their GSO originated optics as used in the GSO House Brand and the brands of others.

I don't have a comment on the mechanical differences. I am aware that there are satisfied customers using both kinds of scopes.

Don't apologise Scott, you raise a valid point. In this particular case I've not heard differing reports from owners of each scope brand but that doesn't mean that there are zero optical differences. Thanks for the addition.
