Andromeda With Equinox

Hi there,

It's been a little while since i've taken any images and i really wanted to grab a quick shot of Andromeda, our wonderful looking front on neighbouring sister galaxy.

It was my first go at combining the William optics FF witht the Equinox and i am pleased to say my nasty coma issues are gone so they made a good couple i think.

Here's two versions, not really a great difference between them though.

Atik11002 ,Equinox 80mm, PFLAT 68, EXPOSURE 5X300sec

Hope you like

Regards
Shane

Cool shot Shane. Little on the red side maybe. I like the first version very much. Beautiful field and colours.

Agree with Marc,

Have you run a deconvolution on the 2nd one, there seems to be a halo around the brighter stars.

Looks good otherwise,

DT

Indeed as others have identified, you've gone a little too hard on the sharpening in version 2 ("M31(2).jpg). Star colours a great however and it can take some time to learn to control this aspect. Remember from an RGB palette perspective, white can't be coloured! Hence heavily stretched data where the starts reach close to white will wash colour. Careful stretching is the key. Keep them coming.

Except for the slight magenta cast the first one looks pretty good Shane

It would be good to have a crack at this galaxy from where it passes overhead.

Hi Shane,

The Andromeda Galaxy is my favourite DSO and your photos show it off beautifully.

I like the way you have kept colour and shade in the surrounding stars.

Well done.

Ross.

Nice image Shane, You have managed nice star colour with the 300 second subs. at 600 sec all my stars are well and truely over saturated.

Very nice.

Love it Shane,

No technical comments from me, took one look and then another and then posted this response.

Very nice work, good job and a lovely effort at framing and compositions (ooops, technical stuff after all)

Fits on my desktop quite nicely.

Cheers

Chris

Surprisingly good image of Andromeda which is tough for us southerners.

Your flattener looks to be not at the right metal back distance. The corner stars seem to be out of focus slightly whilst the central area stars are sharp.

It may be just a matter of getting the exact right spacing. Flatteners usually have a tolerance of only a few mm for this spacing. Do you know the metal back distance for this flattener from the CCD?

Greg.
