M42- unplugged

The clear weather tonight allowed me to test a new toy and after considerable tweaking I finally got the beastie to behave reasonably well.

..and oh no! M42! but it was in the right spot...and I also realised I haven't really done a decent M42...so what the heck...

Decided to present it au naturale' (in H-Alpha)

...no fancy filters, de-con, noise reduction or anything really...just some gamma scaling.

Peter,

Yikes, is that just one exposure?

So, so grand.

That looks like a typical field at F/5. The noise is remarkably low and the view extremely sharp as is without any treament. Very impressive indeed.

Thanks Malcom, H, Marc

It was 5x 10 minute subs, plus a single 60 second exposure for the core.

This is 16:9 crop of the full field, which extends quite a bit above and below the image. Not quite F5...but close enough

Will the weather allow some colour?
