What to do with my Tasco Toy

So crappy weather means you either work on the to-do list your wife has kindly made up for you, or work on some diy astro. Obviously diy astro takes total priority!
I have an old Tasco refractor, my first telescope when i was 12. Rubbish it may be, but it was what spawned my love of all things celestial, so i just dont have the heart to bin it.
A few days ago i started thinking of what else i might do with it. I currently have a 12" dob, and i dont need another finder or a guide. Is there anything i can build out of the Tasco to make something useful, either for my dob, or perhaps a solar scope?

Cheers
Jack

Hi Jack,

Your little Tasco will most likely use 0.96" eyepieces. If you get a 1.25" adaptor for it, you can make a solar filter for it and use it as a solar scope, for sure! Baader Solar film is readily available to make a filter, and the apeture size of your Tasco refractor is perfect for a solar scope!

Mental.

A multiple years old Tasco small refractor is nothing to be sneezed at!

Mount it on an EQ6 PRO and use the dob as a finder

Make a reasonable guide scope or finder scope, the 50mm aperture (i assume) will be enough to grab the light... It wont be great but it will work...

Whats your vintage and do have any pics of the scope?

The older scopes are fairly collectable , and are mostly well made Japenese achros ,, you could make a white light solar scope .
