Brisbane trip

Well I have just got home from charleville, just enough time to pack my bags again for a trip to Brisbane tomorrow for retail therapy while my wife is at some training session for 2 days. Will be paying a visit to JBHifi to replace my tuner amp that stopped working after the Sunday night storm and maybe find me an astro shop and do some spending and visit the museum.
I apologize for the weather in advance.

Adrian

Well I ammsat in Ouzeri restaurant in Westend. I didn't remember how loud Brisbane is. There is more cars outside the restaurant than in the whole town of Roma. Ahwell only here for a couple of days.

OK not my fault if it rains I decided not to buy astro gear. Only bought a new AM/FM tuner amp. Visited JB Hifi it was a waste of time the salesman new nothing and had to read the instruction manual or read off the back panel of the amp, Hardly Normal salesrep claims they didn't sell amps (I walked past 3) and another I can't remember the name says 'you can't afford it'.
I think in future I might stick to online purchases, less hassle.

I hope you had a great time in Brissy Adrian.

Adrian, had I realised in time I would have tried to help you out or pointed you in the right direction, as I have a fairly good understanding of amps. I make a point of only buying audio equipment from specialists (Todd's HiFi). There are lots of amps that all look the same so if you don't know what you want, I guess it can be confusing. And with an amp, you want to to get it right as it's the backbone of your whole set up. Hope you are happy with what you ended up getting anyway.

A couple of years ago lightning blew up one of my amps (yikes it was a $3000 one and luckily insurance covered it, but that's another story) and ever since then as soon as I hear a storm, the lead gets pulled out from the wall. I got told by an electrician that this was the surest way (as compared to surge protector boards) to prevent damage.

If you don't already have OFC cables (oxygen free copper) get them- I can't speak highly enough of them, really does make a difference. And there's also a few easy neat little tricks to increase the perfomance of speakers, but that's a whole other discussion .
I love amps as much as I do scopes (yes, I did actually just say that ), especially if I can manipulate sound waves on them .

Adrian may I suggest Eastwood hi fi in Sydney, they frequently have good specials, know what they sell and their freight rates are very reasonable. If you're lucky ( and your budget allows) he may even have one of the flagship Z series Yamaha home theatre amps at a good price. http://www.eastwoodhifi.com.au/specials.htm

Thanks Suzy. I knew exactly what I wanted but unfortunately couldn't get it with my limited time and no car to chase around (we have govt vehicle).
I will send for what I want when I get home. In the meantime I bought a Sherwood Rd6613 which will get relegated to my daughter when I get what I want.
Yes I have O2 free leads and wouldn't have anything else

Thanks Phil it was a Yamaha amp I was looking for. The one that stopped working during the storm was a Yamaha forget the model as i have had it for many years. I am in discussion with my insurance company to replace it under insurance. I was prepared to buy and then give bill to company but apparently that's not how they work. Have to get quotes for repair/replacement first but if they peg up not too worried.
