Camera museum in Melbourne

I must say, that while I have walked around Melbourne city for a week, the highlight for me has been a couple of return visits to Michaels camera shop in Elizabeth street.

Not only do they have absolutely anything you could possibly want as a photographer...(and in stock too), but they have the most magnificent camera museum upstairs that is free to view.

I even found my old Minolta SRT 303B SLR on display there. I didn't realise that my first SLR camera was so dated!

I remember pulling apart so many Box-Brownies as a kid for the lenses and mirrors, with no idea what I was destroying. Anyone remember 110 film? It was there too.

Here's a few sample pics of familiar, and not so familiar, rare and unique cameras.

Baz.

Great pics Baz - would love to see the Pentax exhibit (if there is one) as my old man was a Spotmatic fan and my first astro experiences were with a Pentax DSLR and leon's old 135 and 200mm Pentax lenses!!
Those 'Coronet Midget' cameras are like latter day iPods with their varied colours.

WOW!

Thanks Baz!

I didn't know about that Museum upstairs at Michaels. Amazing, and I have been to Michaels several times over the last 30 years.
I really like those Coronet Midgets.

You mean to tell me that 110 film is museum material!!!!
I have a few 110 cartridges here at home I have been wanting to get developed but keep forgetting.
They are many years old

Great pics Baz. Thanks.
I must get there and have a look

Hi Barry.....
Great pictures of the museum.
these guys were on tv some months ago, but the clip only ran for a few seconds.
your piccies show a lot more. Some of these are limited editions and some are GOLD PLATED..
My first camera too was a Minolta SRT101. Solid cameras .they were made to last and most were overbuilt and solid.
Had a collection of a couple of hundred but were sold over the years and money put into house renovations etc..and astro gear.
I work in a Camera House and the stuff that passed through our hands over the years was amazing.Old Leicas and Voightlanders etc.

AHHH. The Memories!!!!!

Thanks for showing Barry.

The museum, and the guys, were featured on the ABC's 'Collectors' TV show on Friday 16th of July, probably a 4 to 5 minute spot. Very impressive.

Ooh, you can watch it here: (3:14)

Bit of a worry when you see items there that you are still using

Like my old Pentax KX! (well I was using it at the time I last visited. I think it was there.)
