Governor Brisbane established the Parramatta observatory near government house in 1822. One of the telescopes from the Parramatta observatory is missing. The Sydney observatory loaned it to one of the local universities many years ago and it disappeared. The missing telescope is from the mural circle. (see below). If you have seen it please let me know its aperture. You can send a pm if you wish. Thanks.
The six main instruments in the Parramatta observatory were:
- A 5.5-foot transit instrument (TI) by E. Troughton, aperture 3.75-inches, used to find Right Ascension (RA)
- A 2-foot mural circle (MC) with a 2 foot telescope by E. Troughton, normally used to find Declination but used by Dunlop to also find RA
- A 46-inch equatorial achromatic refracting telescope (AT) by Banks, aperture 3.25-inches located under the southern dome
- A 16-inch repeating circle (RC) by Reichenbach located under the northern dome
- A sidereal clock (SC) by Hardy
- A mean time clock (MTC) by Breguet.
These are now at the Sydney observatory, but only part of the mural circle is there.
