ic 2128 in Dorado

Not happy Jan can't sort out my flats, this is 1hr 33min caught on a windy night in Perth between 12:00 and 2:00am 30/10 used Maxim to guide for the first time

QHY8 OSC using the WO2 reducer through the RC, now someone mentioned to me recently that the glass on the reducer needs to be around 50mm from the CCD chip.

I didn't know this does makes a difference as the reducer on mine has always sat around 30mm.

Does it make that much of a difference

Interesting subject and quite a bit of nebulosity there that I didnt even know existed!

Very nice effort and nice to have a bit of variety too.

Trevor the spacings set for chip to glass must be kept as per design or the focal reduction and flattening will not be correct so it does matter alot actually. Try to get it within a mm of the stated value. Not sure what your reference to lens is about though?

Hi Trevor,

From my reading the spacing is very critical. However as you are not using this reducer for its intended scope, the best distance could be anything. So really experimentation is the only way to know for sure.... On refractors it is recommended to have 56mm spacing.

Nice looking image with an interesting offset look it. I can just see the faint nebula showing through around and in the cluster.

Flattener or reducer distance is critical to flattening or reducing correctly. I got an adapter made up to a specific length to the sensor. I recommend you do the same.

You might like to grab either the baader adjustable T2 extenders or this guy sells ready-made QHY8 to MPCC spacers (requires same chip distance as your reducer).
