Digital radio anyone?

I have recently bought a couple of DAB+ digital radios and am absolutely loving it, especially one of the stations on it called "RADAR RADIO" they play all the new cool stuff and there are 38 stations including the AM and normal FM stations. I also love how the radios tell you what was just played , what is playing and what is coming up next. The sound is perfect CD quality but the only slight set back is the reception can sometimes be a little sensitive.
So just wondering if many others out there are listening to digital radio these days?

Cheers Daniel.

Yep Daniel, an OXX Digital Classic DAB+ user here. Signal strength at my place is very good, even though I love at the metropolitan limits of southern Sydney.

I usually listen to SBS Chill digital radio at night, and my usual AM station in digital format in the morning. I love it. You don't need stereo speakers, as a bedside radio there's no point. Clarity is exceptional, and with Internet radio as well as podcast access it gives you a nearly endless choice.

All the Sydney DAB+ transmitters are on the TV towers around Artarmon and operate in the 202-207MHz band. That is used in other parts of the country for TV as channel 9A.

Ch7/10 Tower 192-196 Hampden Road ARTARMON 33 48 25S 151 10 46E
TCN 9 Television Tower Artarmon Road WILLOUGHBY 33 48 48S 151 11 41E

If you get a reasonable signal for 9 and 10 digital you should get DAB+ - as this is in between those. I'm closer to the towers than Chris, but I have hills blocking the path and need a 4-5 metre TV mast. DAB+ using the built-in telescopic antenna is patchy around the house.

I want to buy one but am a bit concerned with the fact that most of these devices are highly priced and the fact that have only one speaker? What the?
If it is so good why aren't there ones with stereo speakers?
I haven't seen any car stereo units out there yet.....nor a DAB+ USB stick suitable for Aussie radio ( maybe I missed them in the JB HiFi catalouge).
It's been over a year now that DAB+ has been broadcasting.
Is it the fact that it is so clear that they are worried about copyright?
Or trying to get rid of old style radio stock?
There are some component Dab' out there, but once again highly priced for what it is.....
The technology isn't that new to justify these prices I thinks....

I touched on it in my previous post, and after having one for a while now I don't think you need stereo separation in a what is ostensibly being sold as a high-quality, crystal-clear bedside radio. The radio is camped on a bedside table near either your left or right ear depending on sides. That hardly qualifies as even a reasonable place to offer separated channels. As a component device, sure - you can appreciate the separation in your living room as it's a large and often well set up sound stage.

As far as value goes, I don't have a problem with the couple of hundred dollar asking price for mine. It offers DAB+ digital channel selection, an 802.11g wifi connection to the Internet for podcast and Internet radio delivery and even ethernet connectivity if you don't have wifi. There aren't too many other true bedside audio devices that can deliver Swinburne astronomy lectures when I feel like it.

Yes my apologies.... I did not fully read your post properly. Looking from your point with all the connectivity etc it is worth the $'s in that sense.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that why sell an 8 cylinder engine, electric seats, aircon, 8 airbags, GPS navigation, sunroof, leather seats, drinkholder etc etc (you get the point) housed in a Datsun 180b/y.
I use my laptop quite often to listen to podcasts, DI.FM etc ( havnt checked out Swinburne) beside or on my bed.

Danielsun mentioned that he loves DAB, so would I, but not until it turns up in more forms ( car stereo etc) not just a souped up bedside digital radio alarm clock with one speaker..... .
Its sorta a waste of harware...????? me thinks

Bart,
I have a cheap small but great surround sound system around my desk around my computer desk and plug my little DAB radio in and there is the crystal clear sound you will appreciate, then take it to bed with head phones and it's magic.
It's a shame that it is mainly metro areas at this stage, hopefully not for too long and maybe then car makers may consider them.

HD-Radio modules widely available to suit most car HU makes if you can do some basic wiring mods
