3rd Time out with DBK21 and a strange problem.

Images from my third time out with this camera and finally some clear skies

, but this is also the third time this issue has occured.

My first AVI capture is in colour but all captures after that is recorded in B/W

all the setting are the same as the first capture

Not a problem with the moon captures but the other Jupiter captures recoreded in B/W. Next time I'm out I'll shut down IC Capture 2.1 and restart it between captures and see what happens.

Anyone else have this issue?

G'day.

Nope, never had that problem. It's usually 'set & forget' as far as codecs etc are concerned.

What codec are you using? There's a few ways to operate this camera.

I'm using Y800, I'm going to try closing IC Capture each time and see if that fixes it.

Only other thing I can think of is that I'm usung a netbook with 1Gb ram and Windows 7 Starter, might be that after the first capture some germlin comes into play.

I'll try my laptop 4Gb ram and beefed up graphics card and see.

I tried to load the AVI's in AVIStack2 but get a "Frame length does not match codec!" error message even tho they load fine in Registax..

Make sure you give it a try during the day too - nothing worse than setting up at night and finding a problem when the seeing is really good or the GRS is visible or something

The B&W jupiter image actually looks quite nice!

Y800 codec needs to correspond with the other drop down window above it. Let me elaborate.

The reason you are using the Y800 codec is partly to shove 60FPS up the USB cable uncompressed. Partly to have a smaller file size.There are two drop down menu options. On one, you choose the codec: example - Y800. Above that, choose Y800 (640X480). By choosing these two, you would debayer the AVI in registax as you stack etc. You can also debayer on the fly, however this option does not work for some reason. You will always get a mono AVI according to registax & other programs.

I don't recommend using Y800 at all. I've tried it many a time but I can whip every result I've ever gotten by using YUY2 + Unspecified.

With YUY2 + unspecified, it will be colour & general file size will be double the Y800 file size. You will also be limited to 30FPS. I capture 4000 (2mins +) frames though, so that's plenty.

Thank for the advise John, I'll give it a go as the next few nights look like being clrear.

I was starting to think it might actually be Registax that was the culprit as when I now load the AVI that the first image of Jupiter with the moons came from Registax now says it appears to be B/W but did not do this the first time I processed it.

I'd do what Mike suggested. To test things, just point your camera at a light source (not too bright) in your lounge room or something & have a play, making sure you have a filter on the nose cone of course - Dust.

I assume you use an IR/UV cut filter for this type of imaging? It's a 'must have'.

In that case, I'd try debayering in registax. even with an AVI taken with Y800 + Y800, as soon as you load it into Registax it will assume it's just straight B/W.

Hi John, I did that but still ended up with a B/W image, I still have the original AVI on my netbook, I'll copy it to my desktop and see how it goes in Registax.
