Yes when I last looked at the program this morning it took me to the new page, for current users the upgrade is free, the current program is a beauty so where to next.

Phil - I think that with the new company structure in place, we'll see a concerted effort to pass the competitive product - and see it work on all major phone platforms to boot. Give it time.... It would be nice to have a "what's up when" chart - and I know that Carina was asked... so maybe soon given their development rate. That would be very nice indeed. It's about the only reason I still have StarMap at all.

As far as Tak usability goes, I run my Temma2 via this and my SkyFi - and with polar alignment sorted it aligns on a single star of course with no problem. As far as finding objects to photograph, I usually end up very close with the single star alignment - I'm just wondering why two would be essential to you? As a field setup goes it's pretty phenomenal.

Hi Mate,

It not realy essential but I cart my system around a lot so 2 or N-Star modelling can help me be a bit more lazy with polar alignement but still have quite reasonable tracking while I am sipping a nice glass of red.

Yes I fully agree. I have both programs now and find that Sky Voyager is my preferred program, but I switch to Starmap Pro to use it's Whats up tonight.

Not sure if Starmap Pro can do this now, but with Voyager you can lock on to your target with the alt/az settings updated in realtime.

Isn't the new version great?! Very smooth and quick rendering on the touch, a real improvement. Milky Way looks slick too.

Guys has anyone tried go sky watch pro as it's free and I tested this out last night. Type in your location and point the iPad to the sky and tells you what's in the sky. I bought an ipad after reading this post.

18 years using a PC and have switched over to an iPad. What a bit of kit it is.

Hi Ian

The free apps tend to be quite limited in many ways - especially in reference to their catalogues. This "Go Sky Watch" app only offers a database of stars, as the blurb states, that are "visible to the naked eye". This makes it great for showing family and friends what's up there, but that's about all. There's no telescope control or any other higher functions. There are others for free that work just as well - my favourite being "Star Walk", and although it's a few bucks I still refer to it as basically "free" - they're not a lot of money. We're not starved for choice on iOS devices, that's for sure.

My new SkySafari upgrade is switching itself off after a second or so.
I reset to default settings which worked for a while, but now it switches itself off again not even allowing me to get to the settings.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks
Richard

Haven't heard of that one Richard. Does it happen with any other planetarium app you may have? Have you tried to set the apps settings back to default? Completely re-booted your iPad or iPhone? Deleted and re-installed via iTunes?

I'd email Tim at CarinaMobile support for Sky Safari: info@southernstars.com (now Southern Stars) and pose the question to him directly. He's very responsive and always a lot of help. It's the start of their weekend over there so he may not get back until Tuesday our time - but usually he's on to things straight away.

Otherwise, try their Yahoo group as he's lurking htere a lot of the time: http://southernstars.com/support/yahoo_group/index.html

Hi Chris,
No other programs are having any problems, Starmap Pro still works fine.
I will take your advice and send an email, I will also look into their Yahoo group.

Another thing with Safari, when it was working I had to set the time zone to +11 manually, the use DST is not functioning. I think I had to do this with Voyager as well.

Thanks
Richard

ps
I will uninstall and reinstall first as you sugested. I'm using an iPod
32Gb running .04

It appears that there is a very small bug with the new V2 SkySafari.

According to Tim they are working to release an update very quickly.

Also there are some nice surprises coming down the track for Ver 2.2

Cheers

Updated mine the other night. Awesome.

I also purchased the expansion pack as it was only $5. Now, 2.4 million stars or something silly like that. Very cool. : )

Richard, soemthing you might want to try is resetting your location services. Settings > General > Reset (from memory).

That's a good point Humayun - being an Pod, as such, does it have location services at all?

Tim did not mention the nature of the bugs appart from saying they were "Embarassing" which usually implies a DOH moment.

I have not experienced any yet appart from a weird SkySafari APP settings loss which only happened once so did not press him.

The fix is supposedly ver 2.0.1.

The surprises come in 2.1 and the next few releases after that apparently .

Sounds like it may become the ultimate IPAD/IPHONE Astro App the way things are going .......

Cheers
