Anyone here has a Saxon Dob 8" Collapsible?

Going to purchase a Saxon Collapsible Dob 8 - 200mm (8 inch)

Would like to hear feedbacks from those who have/had this dob and what their thoughts are on it?

I did look at a Meade Lightbridge but it is a bit more expensive - it looks nicer but is it worth the extra?

Cheers

*edit - by the way, with our Dollar doing well - would it be cheaper to get the lightbridge model from the US? I can imagine it won't be cheap to post.

Craig,
I've had an 8" collapsible dob for some months and am very happy with it. As it's the first telescope that I've ever had, my opinion is based on very little experience, but the blokes in my club seem to back my judgement. I've learnt that your technique is probably more important than the instrument. The 8" fits into the car easily, is easy to collimate, but is marginal in resolution at it's maximum stated magnification. Increase the focal length of the eyepiece by a millimetre and everything is AOK.
Cheers
Graeme

Hi Graeme,

Thanks for your feedback, can you see planets (jupiter/saturn) quite clearly and nebulae with this 8"? Im trying to see whether its worth going for the 10" collapsable dob instead.

Cheers

hi craig
ive a 8" coll-dob skywatcher i use it for astro camps, camping etc yes you can see plants transits of moons comets d/stars neb,s o/c g/c there a great little scope but it comes down to a couple of things when deciding.

how much do you have to spend?
do you have to drive to a site to use (portability)
appeture the more the better which brings you back to the first 2 points

if all you can afford is the 8" you wont be disappointed!!
