I don't know about nylon, but bunnings stock a bunch of threaded rods, about a metre in length.

Try to find plastic rod and make your own thread, you can speed up the process by using a hand drill....
I remember seeing webpage ad for nylon rods sometime in the past.. if I remember I will let you know.
Also, PM on other details sent....

Try coventry group, like universal fastners, they usually stock Nylon threaded rod. Another company I went to here in Adelaide was United Fastners, thats where I got my 12mm threaded rod from.

try shopping Google.

Specialty fasteners in Canberra is pretty good. Try them. Bunnings will charge a fortune. Steel suppliers (Big ones) will give you a three metre length for a fraction of the price that bunnings will charge for one metre.

I have some mild steel Zinc plated threaded rod at home in 10mm and 6mm if you need a few short lengths.

Yours for nothing if you can arrange post or pickup from Canberra.

Baz.

3 metre lengths might be pushing it... but you could always join shorter lengths I suppose.

I seem to remember Cadillac Plastics used to supply threaded nylon rod. I don't have a catalog at home to check though.

1m lengths are standard for that studding. Your best bet would be RS

Well, if your horizontal drive wheel is 1/2 metres in diameter, you really need only a bit more than 1.5 metres (2*R*PI)...
Also, some people cut the thread in the plasticified edge of the wheel using hand drill and standard tap, I saw it made and it is easy, provided the job is properly prepared. Or, the thread can be impressed into the edge of the wheel, filled with epoxy resin. The possibilities are countless....

Trying to do the same thing and after exhausting local suppliers with no luck, I have come up with the idea of using the nylon joiner piece out of tung and groove.
used to use this for routing cables through wall cavities, and is very available anywhere.

as to laying a thread into it, I will need any advice I can get.

Small Parts up in Brissy sell threaded Nylon rod, but its not cheap.
For 10mmx1.5, they list 1m lengths
but its about $150 for 5x1m lengths
