Fine details revealed in NGC 1365

Once again I tweeked my Image of NGC 1365 to get every last bit of detail I could out of this 1300mm FL 6" scope data given the prevailing conditions at the time (reasonably good seeing). Zooming right into the core and by placing the result next to an image by the 8m VLT telescope at Paranal you can better visualise the fine details and even find several faint background galaxies visible through the arms of NGC 1365!

Can you find them?

More fun with old data. Don't put your data in a locked cupboard, you never know what you might be able to do with it later

Unreal image from a 6".Nice Sidonio Mike.
Just a tad more aperture in the 8m.

.

We'll see... the AP is a punch above weight scope so the AG12 will be taking on a formidable legacy. The extra aperture will be very welcome though as will be the speed.

..?..is this a vague reference to a Fred head shot..?

That's a great result Mike, I love those comparisons. Do you think additional details could be revealed with a barlow/powermate or is the resolution already limited by seeing?

Yeh and that's at just 1300mm FL, no PEC, no adaptive optics and no self guide either

The intention here is not to think there is matching data quality, the VLT raw data would crapolla all over my data, the idea is to use the side by side comaprison with a higher res image in order to highlight little details that would otherwise go unnoticed .

The use of a barlow would probably allow for better resolution results, particularly with deconvolution but my setup is fiddly enough, I have always baulked at changing a system that works pretty well perfectly

Great result Mike. Your AP is a dream scope. No wonder they have a cult following.

I plan to image this one soon if I ever get any clear skies!! Be interesting to see how much aperture comes into it.

You took these at a dark sky site?

Greg.

Not an image session passes without a reflection on my good fortune!

It's about a 50min drive from Newcastle (in the mining happy Hunter valley ) so not exactly daaaark but rural at least and better than suburban Newcastle.

Yep, a great shot Mike and an interesting comparison! What tweaking did you actually do after you enlarged it?

Cheers, Marcus

Love this galaxy and your image shows those faint edge on backgrnd galaxies too. Really great dust detail, I think these scopes can image well with even longer fl's.

John.
